ECF Members Club tournaments

We have the usual schedule this week with 4 events on and 3 on lichess : ECF Members Club tournaments on

Friday (Diamond Blitz at 8-00), Sunday (Rapid Swiss at 8-00), Tuesday (New Improvers U1600 Rapid at 5-30) and Thursday Afternoon (Blitz at 2-00)

Saturday (Rapid at 8-00), Monday Afternoon (Blitz at 2-00) and Wednesday Evening (Blitz at 8-00)

♟ Nations League Season 3

We lost both segments of our Nations League match against a very strong Argentine Federation team last week. We had some very close fought games with the matches a lot closer than the result suggest – well played team and thanks to everyone who took part including GM Keith Arkell and IM Thomas Rendle on the top boards.

The Nations League continues with our second fixture against Jamaica now rescheduled for Sunday as follows:

England v Jamaica – Rapid Segment (15+2)- 9-00 pm Sunday 20th June

England v Jamaica – Blitz Segment (3+2) – 10-15 pm Sunday 20th June

Registration will be open an hour before the start time for each match. Players registering for the England team will be allocated a board for each segment and will play two games with colours reversed against the the opposing team member with the same board number. The team score is based on the results for all boards with defaults awarded for any of the top 10 boards if there is no opponent.

🐴 lichess Internationals / Mega Team Battles
The English Chess Players team is continuing with various friendly internationals as well as participating in 4 regular lichess leagues / series  – these matches are open to all lichess English Chess Players club members.

10th lichess Mega Team Battle – The next Mega Team Battle will be at 5-00 pm on Friday 18th June. Registration is open now at the link here: This is a lichess organised weekly event and includes around 200 teams in one of the largest team battles on the platform.

England Friendlies  – We won our match against Turkey last Saturday and have been invited to a rematch against Turkey at 3-30 pm on Saturday 19th June at the link here:

🎙▶  Bundesliga/ Quarantane League  – We came top in both our fixtures last week on Sunday 13th here: and Thursday 17th June here:  – A big thank you to top scoring players GM Keith Arkell, GM John Nunn and IM Ali Mortazavi and to everyone who joined us for the matches. This means we continue moving upwards another two divisions to Liga 3B with the next match at 7-00 pm on Sunday 20th June at the link here:  We will be facing some tough opposition in Liga 3B including Team Russia, Afghanistan, and Bundlesliga Champions Legion de America.

Champions League – We came eighth in the Champions League team battle at 6:30 pm on Tuesday 15th  June at the link here:  – This was a 120 minute team battle at 3|0 with 26 National teams mostly from Europe, Africa and South America. The next round will be at 6:30 pm on Tuesday 22nd June and we will publish the link on the lichess club home page once available.

Grand Prix

ECF Online Grand Prix – Entries are open or the ECF Online Blitz Grand Prix and ECF Online Rapid Grand Prix series on lichess. The events run monthly from March and are held at 2:00pm on the first Sunday of each month (for the Blitz Tournaments) and the third Sunday of each month (for the Rapid Tournaments). England Women’s Team

She Plays to Win

She Plays To Win is a UK Girls Chess Project supported by the ECF and led by England Women’s Coach IM Lorin D’Costa, to try and encourage more girls to participate and learn chess in a fun environment. This involves free 30 minutes training in the weekly group, and a tournament on the Lichess server afterwards. The links below provided details of the project, upcoming events and a joining form for parents looking to register on behalf of their daughters.

England Juniors

The English Juniors team runs fortnightly events on Thursday at 6.00pm with occasional matches against other countries. The club link and joining instructions are here

National Schools Championships

The National Schools Championships are now being held on  Fridays with entry open to all Secondary Schools.

ECF Online Ratings
All club events and other ECF-registered events are ECF online rated at the relevant time control (Standard, Rapid or Blitz).  The June online rating list is out now with results to end of May. As above we have a growing number of online leagues and competitions. You can register an online league or event for online rating and ECF calendar entry on the web site here:
